About

Marcio Tex

Marcio Tex is a retired captain in the Brazilian Navy who has traveled the world, reaching as far as the upper Amazon River and Antarctica. His exploits have brought him close to diverse people and cultures, different ways of understanding the world, and the meaning of our human nature, a rich life experience that he tries to represent in his writing.

In the Navy, Marcio was once the lighthouse authority; the Brazilian representative and council member to the International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities; and the deputy hydrographer.

So, how in the world did he end up as a science fiction writer?

It started with a matter of taste, opportunity, and a sense of wonderment with the universe when he was a boy. He saw the original broadcasts of TV series like Lost in Space, It´s About Time, Star Trek, Time Tunnel, Captain Scarlet, Thunderbirds, and Fantastic Voyage, to name a few. In the movies, there were pearls like 2001: A Space Odyssey, Planet of the Apes, Star Wars, Logan’s Run, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and so many others. What a memorable time for science fiction it was, enough to stir up the imagination of any child.

“Writing connects me to myself, rekindling the precious memories of a magic age. That is what motivates me to transform into novels what came to me in reveries. I want to pay homage to all the authors and screen writers who fascinated me through my childhood and showed me how much is out there. Thank you for filling my dreams and igniting my passion. I will reach the stars, even if I never leave the Earth—and I will do it for you.”

Marcio Tex lives in Rio de Janeiro. He is married with two daughters and two grandchildren.
